WHICH WINDOWS OFFER THE GREENEST CHOICE

Using wood windows makes a significant contribution to low-carbon building not only because they are in themselves low carbon, but because they are energy efficient too.

Wood windows are a great choice for house builders, renovators, architects and homeowners looking for an environmentally sound, sustainable option.

Renewable, light and strong, wood is a natural resource.

Wood, sourced from sustainably managed forests, is the ‘greenest’ material you can choose for a window. Each wood window you choose instead of a PVC-U frame, saves 160kgs CO² over the life of the building – that’s over one and a half tonnes of CO² for an average house of ten windows.

In the video below, Dr. Gill Menzies of Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh shows how – as part of a life cycle assessment – all wood-based window frames (timber, modified timber and aluminium-clad-timber) have lower environmental impacts than PVC-u.
